Home Cleaning

How often should you really deep clean your home?

Weekly tidy-ups keep things ticking over, but some jobs need a deeper reset. A realistic schedule for the whole house, and how to tell when it is time to book one in.

A home never really stops needing attention. Between the wipe-downs and the vacuuming, there is a deeper level of clean that keeps everything hygienic, fresh and easy to maintain.

Weekly upkeep versus a deep clean

A weekly or fortnightly clean is about maintenance. A deep clean goes further, reaching the spots routine cleaning skips and bringing the whole home back to a baseline you can comfortably maintain from there.

A realistic room-by-room schedule

Kitchen

Wipe benches and the stovetop as you go, and give the sink and splashback a proper clean weekly. Every few months, set aside time for the rangehood filter, the oven and the fridge.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms earn a hygienic clean every week. Two to four times a year, go deeper on grout, tile, shower screens and exhaust fans.

Signs it is time to book a deep clean

  • You have wiped a surface but it still does not feel properly clean.
  • Bathroom grout, glass or tapware has lost its shine.
  • You are moving in or out, or hosting something that matters.

The simplest way to stay on top of it is to let a recurring clean handle the maintenance, then schedule a deeper clean a few times a year for the jobs that need it.
